Tungiasis, commonly known as Jigger Disease, is a parasitic skin condition caused by the female sand flea, Tunga penetrans (also known as the chigoe flea) burrowing into the skin to lay its eggs. Without proper treatment, the infection can progress unnoticed, leading to serious complications such as abscesses, secondary infections, gangrene, and disfigurement.
